Introducing IXL
We are pleased to tell you that we have started using a website called IXL in our sk-8th grade classrooms. Jk students will be introduced to the website individually over the next few weeks. IXL is a comprehensive math practice site with an unlimited number of math practice questions in hundreds of skills. One of the best things about IXL is that your child can access it from home, so you have a chance to see your child's progress!
To get your child started on your home computer, please follow these easy steps:
1. Go to www.IXL.com/signin/woodlandps
2. Enter your child's username and password and click Sign in. Each child has a card with their user name and password.
3. Navigate to your child's grade level.
4. Find a skill to practice by doing one of the following:
· Select a specific skill to practice from the list of skills. You can place your mouse over any skill to see a sample question and click on the link to begin.
· Click on the Awards tab. Each grade level has an embedded game board with challenges for your child to conquer and virtual prizes to be uncovered. Place your mouse over any challenge to begin.
In addition to making math practice exciting, IXL is designed to help your child learn at his or her own pace. The website is adaptive and will adjust to your child's demonstrated ability level. The site also saves all of your child's results, so you can monitor your child's progress anytime by clicking on the Reports tab. We hope you'll encourage your son or daughter to use IXL daily.

Thanks for Making WPS the Best!
For the 4th consecutive year, Woodland Presbyterian School has been voted as the "BEST PRIVATE SCHOOL IN MEMPHIS" in Memphis Parent Magazine's Family Choice Awards. Thank you for voting for us and for entrusting your children to us. We wouldn't be the BEST PRIVATE SCHOOL without having the BEST KIDS IN TOWN!

Inclement Weather Policy
Woodland Presbyterian School may close due to inclement weather or hazardous driving conditions. WPS follows the Memphis City Schools’ closing policy for inclement weather at the start of the school day, unless otherwise notified. In most cases, local television channels will be notified if Woodland is closed in time for the 6:00 a.m. news.
If inclement weather develops after the school day is in session, Woodland administration will make a determination regarding school closing based on the most up-to-date, official forecasts. A notice of the closing and dismissal time will be posted on the school website and/or an email will be sent to parents if it is decided to close during the school day.
If school is dismissed during the school day, please pick your child up at his normal dismissal point at the announced time. School personnel will remain on campus until all students are picked up, but parents should be sensitive to the need for school staff to travel safely home as well by picking your child up as soon as possible.
In the event of a school closure, any tests, projects, or assignments with an assigned date for the day or days missed will be due on the first day back at school. If school closes during the day, students in upper grades are advised to take their books home in case of a multi-day school closure. They should check the school website and email for possible homework assignments. If the school closure is known ahead of time, students should bring home all books.
Whether school is closed for the full day or is closed during the day, all after school-related activities are canceled (After School Care, athletics, drama, meeting, etc.).
Parents are always asked to use their own discretion regarding travel in their own areas, even if school is not closed. Absences of students who cannot come to school due to unsafe driving conditions will be excused.

Uniform Jackets
These fall mornings are getting chilly, and if you have not already done so, you may need to order a fleece jacket for your student. Due to some quality control issues, the Woodland Spirit Shop will no longer stock the jackets, so please visit the Lands’ End website at www.landsend.com/school or click on this link www.tinyurl.com/wpsjacket to order.
Just a reminder that the logo’d fleece jacket is the only approved dress code jacket for student wear in class (for students in grades SK-8). Other outerwear may be worn to school but not in class. Please be sure to put your child’s name in his or her jacket—we really can’t stress that enough.

Have an early meeting, flight, or just want to get a head start on your day?
Woodland is now offering the convenience of Early Drop-Off between 7:00-7:15 a.m. at a cost of $3.00 per day. The lower door (southeast side) of the gym will be open during those times for drop-off of students if needed. At 7:15 the door will be locked and students will not be admitted until 7:30 when the doors open for regular arrival. Accounts will be billed monthly. It is not necessary to sign up in advance for this service.
